UNC Media Hub

During the spring of 2023, I was a graphics artist for UNC Media Hub. UNC Media Hub is a cohort of students from various concentrations within UNC-Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media who collaborate to produce top-tier integrated media packages covering stories across North Carolina. See some of my favorite pieces below.

No health insurance? A non-profit seeks to improve colon cancer screening

I created a feature image and three infographics about colorectal cancer screening in Buncombe County, NC for this story by Elizabeth Egan.

The story was republished by the nonprofit independent news organization North Carolina Health News.

Fredrick Jones Brings Color to Manga

I created a feature image for this story by Paris Geolas about comic book artist and founder of MyFutprint Entertainment LLC Frederick L. Jones.

One of the reasons this graphic was so interesting was that I used Jones’ digital manga magazine Saturday AM’s guide titled “How to Draw Diverse Manga” in order to create it. I got to learn tips and best practices for drawing authentic, diverse characters in manga style.

‘This is a major evolution’: Coalition seeks to bring hydrogen to NC

Due to my passion for environmental justice, I was very excited to help with this story by Katie MacKinnon.

I created two graphics for the story about a proposed hydrogen hub in the southeast US, one of which was also used as the feature image.

To see the full collection of all the stories I contributed to, see here (note the author description is out of date).

Coulture Digital Articles

During the COVID-19 quarantine in 2020, I worked on the digital team for Coulture Magazine, a fashion and lifestyle magazine by UNC-Chapel Hill students. Per their about blurb, the magazine “challenges beauty standards by encouraging readers to accentuate their best features rather than conform to unrealistic societal expectations.” I helped with some of the design for the website and wrote articles to populate the online content. Those articles can be found here.
